Gift For Jesus (Rhodell)

What seemed a spontaneous idea.  Just the family.  A light logistical mission trip.  Of course, as the Bible says, His ways are not our ways.  Last year the Lord provided that we could make arrangements to pay for some turkey’s and we arranged to have them picked up and distributed.  This year the Lord put it on our hearts to go to Rhodell and provide more than turkey’s.

More people have been involved with this mission this past year and we wanted to keep people in the loop about what we were doing.  Karen wanted to come with her two kids and a friend of hers that was interested in knowing more about what we were doing.  Bobby, who came with us this past summer wanted to go also.  We are now up to 9 people and three vehicles!  Donations started rolling in also!  Cans of green beans from H.U.G.S. puppet ministry, clothing from other people, and financial support.  We were given an opportunity to speak at a local senior center; Karen and her son, Markel, were with us also.  We spoke of how the Lord has been moving in the work He has us doing.  The ladies gave some thoughtful consideration to what we shared and presented us with gift cards totaling $190!!!

A mission trip is almost certain to test ones faith.  We had planned a get together with Karen the Sunday prior to discuss the logistics of our travel.  A work related obligation came up.  Not only could she not make the get together, she couldn’t come on the trip; how would we be able to pick up the turkey’s in Beckley and get then to Rhodell (cue dramatic music).  Times like these make it important to remember this mission work belongs to the Lord.  If there is something that needs taking care of, seek the Lord’s wisdom.  We called Marie at The Open Door.  She said her brother could meet us at the store to pick up the turkeys and pies.  Praise the Lord.

Our travel there was uneventful and a time of fellowship.  We awoke Monday morning, headed for the store to pick up turkeys.  All went well.  Mr. Woodruff and a friend of his were also coming to Rhodell to deliver bicycles.  One of the other logistical issues was getting the sweet potatoes to Rhodell.  As we were awaiting the arrival of the sweet potatoes we went over the list of registered families.  We were two turkey’s short!  Fortunately, Paul told us of a grocery store that was about half the distance of going back to the Beckley area.

Distribution was smooth over all and Marie’s niece, Kim, helped us out.  We hung out for a little while, helped clean up, and we were on our way.  This was our way of giving Jesus a “birthday” present.  It is His birth that we are to celebrate.  And in so doing we get a blessing in return.
