An Empty Box Of Snacks...A Reason To Worship?
(Redemption)

“The angel said to the woman, ‘Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.  He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.  Come, see the place where He was lying.”
                Matthew 28:5,6(NASB)

One of the activities in the order of worship at church is a children’s sermon.  This past Easter people were asked to bring flowers to stick into the wire mesh covering the cross.  Our worship giving the children’s sermon gave the message that on Friday it was a plain wooden cross which is what Jesus dies on, in turn providing a way of salvation.  Sunday being the day of Jesus’ resurrection is a beautiful day like the flowers that covered the cross.
As I listened to the message, minding my own business, this unfolded in my mind…
Those times I go to the cabinet in the kitchen where the snacks are kept; I see a favored box of snacks.  I reach in as I control the saliva wetting my mouth, my fingers grip in anticipation, but it feels light…maybe I’m getting the last…Nooooo!  It’s empty!  WHO PUT THE EMPTY BOX BACK IN THE CABINET!!
The obvious emotion?  Disappointment.  But what about the empty tomb?  Of course we, as believers in Jesus Christ, should be most excited by this; but are we?  I know I don’t get shivers when I think about the empty tomb.  In fact, how often do I really think about it?
I have, on an occasional yet regular basis, been asking the Lord to help me have some sense of excitement or appreciation for what the Lord has done for me.  This Easter Sunday I think He’s done that through an empty box of snacks.  The next time I reach in and find the box empty I shall not cry out in woe, but rather reflect on that container as a representation of the empty tomb.  To do this in remembrance that Jesus Christ did rise from the dead, defeated the hold that satan has on me, and that He is seated at the right hand of our Father.  An empty box…Praise The Lord!!!
