“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” Ephesians 1:18 (NASB)
I created this BLOG for two reasons; the obvious one is so people could follow the developing preparations for the mission trip. The other reason lies in the presence of the tab titled, “Pray for…” It was my desire that through preparing for the mission trip we would see movements of the Holy Spirit, thereby giving testimony to the goodness of God, which in turn would glorify God. Here’s what I’m hoping would show, at times, through these movements; a deeper understanding of how prayer works based on Joshua chapter 6. It’s the account of the Israelites taking the city of Jericho. Chapter 6 is the account of Joshua receiving instructions from the Lord on how the Israelites are to proceed. Here’s the interesting part - Joshua doesn’t tell the whole thing to everybody all at once. He tells them what they need to know as things unfold. Now, apply that principle to our prayer life. The Lord tells us what we need to know to go to the next step then gives us further instructions; but we tend to take the initial instructions to be the whole answer then stop looking for further guidance, proceeding as if there is nothing else to know. Imagine if the Israelites had done the same thing at Jericho - they would have failed. Why is this important? As we are given guidance from the Lord on how to proceed it is imperative to adjust the focus of our prays accordingly.
Case in point: We have been praying that the Lord would provide a Church body for us to partner with regarding Rhodell - that’s the prayer. My wife, Evelyn tells me last night that a patient she has attend worship services at a Church in Beckley West Virginia and has expressed interest in the mission work!!! Now, do we keep praying the same thing - “Lord, please provide a Church body for us to partner with.”? Of course not! We need to adjust our prays to be more specific and continue this process as things unfold. Please pray with us and excitingly watch the hand of the Lord move!!!
